Acing the E-learning game – Do’s and Don’ts of Virtual Classes

The pandemic has been a learning experience for us all, right from social distancing and living life without any help and balancing work and home to online learning. While we are inching towards the new-normal, we have a long way to go for life to go back to pre-COVID days. Moreover, as we are living each day as it comes, trying to keep ourselves motivated, it is the kids who are the real victims.

Not being able to spend time with children their age, not being able to experience school life, missing out on the best years of their lives, they are the ones who are suffering more than us. They are never going to get back these precious moments.

With so much at stake, let us not stop them from learning and growing. Virtual learning is new-age learning, and it is time we accept it. Online school classes give your child the chance to socialize with his/her friends as well as catch up on school activities. While we are all new to this and are trying our best to adapt to the new system, we thought of listing down a few do's and don'ts for our Secondary students that can help them get going and ace the e-learning game.

Do's

• Wear your school uniform; it trains your mind to believe you are in school and keeps you stay focused.
• Log in to the session a few minutes before the class time; it will help avoid any technical glitch if any.
• Try and use headphones/earphones so that you can hear the audio.
• If not necessary, keep your video off, so that there is no internet bandwidth issue.
• Keep yourself on mute, unless you have to answer a question or have a question to ask.
• Sit at a study table or a place in the house where there is no disturbance, and all your study material is easily accessible.
• Take notes if anything important is shared.
• Follow the rules just like you would in a typical class scenario.
• Communication is vital when it comes to online learning. Let your teacher know after the class if you have not understood a concept.

Don'ts

• Multi-task for unrelated purposes, for example, texting a friend, watching TV.
• Sit on the couch or bed.
• Be afraid/shy to ask questions.
• Create off-topic distractions and discussions during the class.
• Submit assignments beyond deadlines quoting technical errors.
• Plagiarize using web content or a friend's assignment.
• Post negative comments on the discussion boards.
